About two weeks ago, I got my first gelish manicure and I loved them. They have been staying super glossy and chip-free on my nails even up till I had to remove them cos my nails were getting too long and I have work lined up next week.
So I went back to the same salon (283 Bishan Street 22) that did my nails to get my discounted soak off service at $10. But to my horror, the soak off and removal service was not only less than pleasant, it was traumatising.

Hello guys, the semester is officially over (minus two final exams)!! I can't wait for the holidays to come so I can finally relax and recharge for my final semester in SMU. But having no more projects, presentations and reports to worry about for now is indeed a huge relief. (:
Anyway, my purchases from the Born Pretty Store arrived earlier this week! I was super excited but I have gel polish on my nails now I have to wait till another two week before I can use any of these nail wraps. So, sorry you'll have to wait another two weeks before I'll be posting photos of these pretties on my nails. They're really cheap too, these 5 sets cost me only about SGD$13+. And there are so many designs to choose from I took forever to pick out a few that I really really liked.
I honestly hope that those nail wraps above are of better quality that those I got from Watsons. This photo below shows a set that I bought from Watsons. Yes application was easy but I didn't really like the texture of it after. And removal was super easy (unintentionally!). The first one peeled itself off within the next 2 hours... It didn't give me the same satisfaction as painting my own nails either! @whimsypoppysmic seconded that, so I'm not the only one! Well, I guess pretty pink nails made me slightly happy for 2 hours anyway.
And here's my first ever gelish nails! Nail Harmony's June Bride. It's been two weeks now and I really love how they remain super glossy up till now. Other than one tiny chip on my right middle finger, the rest are still going strong. Somehow I can't manage to capture how shiny and lovely these are on my phone's camera, but I've been receiving compliments on how pretty they look from friends and random classmates so that makes me very happy (:
I think the only downside to gelish nails is that they last for so long, I am getting kind of impatient and itching to try out my new nail wraps and have some new colours / designs on my nails!
Oh and have I mentioned? I recently picked up yoga to keep myself in shape (now that I'm no longer in cheerleading and turning into a fat blob). I've entered F&N Nutritea's Instagram contest with this amateur yoga pose photo below and I hope that you guys could help me out by heading over to my Instagram and liking this photo! CLICK HERE!
This #NutriteaSoothes competition is ending today (Sunday, 15th Nov) so I would really appreciate it if you guys could show some support yeah? The winning entries will be based on 60% judges choice and 40% Likes on Instagram, and I could win a staycation worth more than $300! Or at least some consolation prizes worth $100. Yes yes CLICK HERE and like!
I can sense the Christmas cheer creeping in already. Can you? ^^
Till next time!!

8 Epic Moments From My Groupmates
POSTED ON: Sunday, November 2, 2014 @ 1:03 PM | 0 comments
I recently read a post somewhere on the top few excuses free riders in group projects give for missing their group meetings. Having finished 3.5 years in SMU (only one more semester to go!), I've had my fair share of free riders in my group too. Of course the typical ones coming from far away lands~ (if you know what I'm talking about). So here's a list of top 8 Epic Moments From My Groupmates, from my personal experience (unfortunately).
Yeah this may be pretty different from what I usually blog about, but just something different for a change. I promise my nails and travel posts will be back super soon!
#1 My laptop crashed.
"My laptop crashed, so all the work I did previously was gone. And oh, I can't do anything for the project now either since I don't have a laptop."
Guys, this is definitely not a valid excuse. Most of us have set up Dropbox and Google docs for our projects and these online platforms are a great way to save and backup your work in case of stolen laptops or laptops drowning in the bathtub. If you really didn't manage to save or backup your work anywhere, there are computers available in SMU's Li Ka Shing Library. I believe the library is open 24/7 nearer the end of the semester too. So no excuses guys.
#2 Dropbox? What Dropbox?
In Week 10...
"Hey, we all have our parts in the Dropbox already. Where's yours?"
"Dropbox? What Dropbox?"
An unbelievable team mate I must say...
#3 Forever overseas.
"I can't attend any meetings, I will be away for the next 4 weeks."
Well what can I say? A man like him is hard to find...
#4 I do not want to do the presentation.
"Alright, so here's how we'll split up the parts of the project for our presentation NEXT WEEK."
"No. I do not want to present."
In my opinion, it would be very fortunate if this person does any work for the group at all.
#5 Forever late.
"Oh in my country, if you set the time for 2pm, people will only come at 4 or 5pm."
Hello? When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Firstly you are now in Singapore. And in Singapore, being late for 3 hours is as good as not turning up at all. Well, in my case, yes the meeting obviously ended before this group mate arrived. And guess what, since we never had a proper meeting, this group mate of mine doesn't recognize me and doesn't even know how his group members look like. He probably only knows our names through the emails and whatsapp messages...
#6 I can't do this.
"I am travelling during the weekends. I have other projects to do. I have other modules to study for. I am not confident of doing this. I can't do my part."
Does this sound ridiculous to you or does this sound ridiculous to you?
#7 Forever overslept.
When a meeting starts at 12pm and ends at 3pm...
(at 1pm on Whatsapp) "Oh sorry guys I just woke up, will rush over now..."
(walks in for meeting at 2.45pm)
When a meeting starts at 2.30pm and ends at 6pm...
(at 6.20pm on Whatsapp) "Hey sorry I just got up. I'll get my stuff (that was due for meeting today) done soon..."
This came from the same group mate of mine. I suspect this person might be nocturnal, just like owls and bats. Maybe I'll forgive you if you're late / absent for one meeting. But twice? That is utterly unforgivable. Honestly, who wakes up at 6pm? Not even when you're furiously partying like there's no tomorrow on Friday night...
#8 Nobody contacted me.
This fellow here does not have WhatsApp so nobody could send him messages on WhatsApp and he couldn't see our discussions in the Whatsapp group chat.
This fellow here does not have Facebook, so we couldn't have group chats on Facebook or create a Facebook group for the project either.
This fellow here also does not reply normal text messages (SMS), or take phone calls.
This fellow here only communicates through emails, which IMO is the slowest form of modern day communication (after snail mail and fax) considering that you can't be checking your emails 24/7. It is also ridiculous to be emailing someone to say "hey, remember to cite your sources" or "hey, remember to email your slides to the group leader by today", and to get an email reply saying "okay".
Maybe sending a pigeon would be more efficient? Pigeon posts anybody?
Now that you've read the top 8 from my own experience, I'm sure you can relate to some yeah? Or maybe you even have more epic experiences with your group mates to share with me here. Wish you (and myself) luck anyway!!

Lorraine
OPI Liquid Sand - Stay The Night
POSTED ON: Friday, October 31, 2014 @ 3:06 PM | 0 comments
A month long hiatus from blogging due to the overwhelming workload from school. Please accept my sincere apologies, and I am really grateful to those who have been visiting this space despite the lack of posts. Thank you for your unwavering support guys!! ^^
Since this week marks the end of October, which also means Halloween is just a couple of days away, I decided to get a darker shade of polish for my nails. No spiders, ghouls or cobwebs on my nails. These creepy things really freak me out quite a bit. I am absolutely terrified of haunted houses in theme parks. I kind of think that my screams shock the "ghosts" more than they scare me, when it should be the other way round (I think the scaring is mutual anyway).
So here's OPI's Stay The Night, a liquid sand from the Mariah Carey collection. Two coats of Stay The Night over my new favourite Barielle basecoat, and a generous coat of Seche Vite topcoat to get a more glossy finish. Still not that into textured polish, but just a personal preference. Funny how I was just at the Mariah Carey concert at the National Stadium a week ago. Little secret for you, I did this at a nail salon instead of doing my own nails at home for convenience sake. Probably only the third time in my life I've been to a nail salon though... and I still prefer doing my own nails.
Absolutely loving how the little pink glitters sparkle under the light against the black base! Doesn't matter if this shade is from a rather old collection. About two years ago I think? My mum saw my nails and she absolutely fell in love with the colour. She's been bugging me to get her a bottle of the same colour but I have no idea where to get shades from so many collections ago.
Here's me practicing my gradient a few weeks ago. Yes, definitely more practice needed...
Just to share with you guys what I bought yesterday. A lip liner! I've been seeing blog posts and reviews of lip liners pretty often these days so I thought I should give it a try too. My lipstick always mysteriously disappears within an hour of application even though I barely drink water and haven't eaten anything. Maybe I bite my own lips unknowingly or something? So while I was at Raffles City's Robinsons yesterday, I spotted lip liners at the Dior counter. And Dior being Dior, their lip liners cost $38 each. My mum being a price conscious shopper forbid me to buy something that didn't need to cost so much. She dragged me to Etude House instead and indeed I got myself an equally functional lip liner for only $4.90. (:
Yay for not spending money unnecessarily and only buying things that are worth the money! Really easy to use and really glad how a simple lip liner adds some life to my tired and weary face.
To all those who are battling with projects and exams as well... work hard, press on, the end is near~!! (:

Hello September! The month arrived earlier than expected and deadlines are looming nearer with every passing day. School is starting to get hectic but I keep telling myself I must not fall behind on them readings. Wish me luck yeah?
Anyway I came across this 31 Day Challenge on Instagram at the start of the month and I've done 4 of them so far. It's rather impossible for me to complete all 31 manis since I like to keep them on for a few days so kudos to those who are able to put in the time and effort!
First mani for the challenge was Day 08: Metallic Nails.
This one here is three coats of Indian Ocean from the brand Model's Own. Super sheer polish, would have been perfect over a dark solid colour but apparently I forgot. I hope I do remember to layer it over something else the next time I feel like using this colour. Love how the little specks catches the sunlight and turns pinkish purple anyway!
Day 9: Rainbow Nails / Day 11: Polka Dots.
Killing two birds with one stone here heheh! I initially wanted to do a rainbow gradient but I absolutely couldn't find the time to do it so I figured a simple dotticure would do. The base colour is two coats of Angel's Breath from China Glaze. The dots are mostly colours from China Glaze too, and I used a dotting tool of course.
Day 12: Stripes.
This one received quite a few compliments from my classmates so I'm leaving them on for quite a while more. The pink base colour is ciate's Kiss Chase, the blue base colour is OPI's No Room For The Blues, and the darker colour on top is OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark. It's really simple to do since I used a striping tape, but I had to wait a for a few hours for the pink and blue polish to dry completely. Oh and here's a little tip - after painting the dark colour (or the top colour) over the striping tape, remove the striping tape immediately after painting each nail instead of waiting for the polish to dry before removing.
Day 14: Flowers.
Most disappointed with this one. The flowers didn't turn out the way I had envisioned them to be. In fact, they look nothing like flowers at all. The pink polish is ciate's Kiss Chase again and the whole look was gone in a couple of hours. I really need to start looking up tutorials on how to draw flowers again..
There's still half of September left if you'd like to join in the fun. And of course many many months before the end of 2014 and you can always whip out this list if you're wondering what to paint on your nails! Don't forget to hashtag your photos with #31dc2014 (check out them nails on Instagram)! (:
Leaving you with a b&w selfie of myself from last weekend. Hang in there, don't give up! Good things will come to those who are believe, better things will come to those who wait, and the best things will happen to those who don't give up! (:

Kiss Me I'm Brazilian
POSTED ON: Friday, August 29, 2014 @ 10:48 PM | 0 comments
Been making good use of my new oven by cooking dinner using it or baking at least twice a week. I absolutely love cooking and baking but I still need a lot more practice with it! Last Friday was my mum's birthday so I decided to bake her a cake for the first time ever. Earl grey tea cake it was, but the presentation looked terrible. I had no idea how to frost a cake properly so it looked pretty ugly. Well at least it tasted quite okay. I'm looking for healthier options to bake too, like apple chips and whatnot instead of high sugar desserts all the time. I'm less guilty like that right?
This week's mani features Kiss Me I'm Brazilian from OPI's Brazil collection. Lovely bright creme pink polish that only required two coats to be fully opaque. Looks like my dotting technique has some slight improvement, it looks better than when I first tried dotting when I came back from Stockholm. The flowers are simply nail stickers, so no credit to me for those.
I've had a few friends complimenting my nails this week so I'm pretty glad! I quite like this look too! Bright, pink (duh) and bubbly! Need to have such cheery nails like these every week so I wouldn't suffer from Monday blues (or Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday blues). For now, I'm just gonna enjoy my weekends.

I honestly hope that those nail wraps above are of better quality that those I got from Watsons. This photo below shows a set that I bought from Watsons.
